Meccanoid events are a showcase of the very best in electro; freaked out bass jams, mysterious disco, classic techno through to quirky electronix, in a unique curated party environment with production ideas and design elements that need to be seen to be believed!
Started in Melborne back in 2002, the intimate upstairs room at Pony Bar was to become a breeding ground for electro freaks and by the
end of the year the room was bulging at the seams. Soon the party had taken over both floors, and Meccanoid has since continued to grow and evolve. Long term stints at venues have also included Two Floors Up and The Public Office. Meccanoid currently resides at Melbourne's newest and most intriguing venue, The Toff in Town. The common thread of each episode remains: a unique theme, stunning decor and a venue full of costumed personalities as well as special performances that have included visual artists, cabaret acts, and Meccanoid's series of original 'Midnight Fashion' runway shows.
During it's five years of events Meccanoid has helped set in motion the performance careers of such well known Melbourne names as Teknob and Grimus, Dr Hysteric, Portal, Jim Westlake, Harris Robotis, Fluorescent, Wil-tron, and showcased the talents of local electro stars Simon Caldwell, Mink Engine, Ransom, Little Beasties, The Emergency plus many more. International guests have included Fiedel (Ostgut/Hardwax, Berlin), Bangkok Impact (Clone/Viewlexx, Finland), Snax (Terranova, NY) and most recenly TLR, Legowelt, Orgue Electronique (Creme Organization, Holland) and Frivolous (~Scape, Canada).
Known
for it's quality events and sounds, Meccanoid has been invited to host events and stages at some of
Melbourne's best venues and festivals, including Honkytonks, Revolver, First Floor, Sunshine People,
Earthcore, Digital Festival, Degraves Street Festival and the National Gallery of Victoria. Meccanoid remains dedicated to encouraging and promoting local and international underground artists and sounds, having hosted production workshops, staged national and international tours as well as their latest project, the forthcoming launch of the Melbourne based M Division record label in March 2008.
Meccanoid events are held approximately 4 times per year, with special DJ and live act guests every time, and will be advertised on this site, through Myspace as well as our mailing list. The aim of a Meccanoid party is to involve everyone from players to punters in an immersive space - so we encourage dressing up to the hilt for a true Meccanoid experience!
